D&B, DnB or D’n’B is a genre and branch of electronic music characterised by fast breakbeats (typically 160–180 bpm with heavy bass and sub-bass lines, sampled sources, and synths. It emerged from rave and jungle scenes in the United Kingdom during the early 1990s.
Dub started in the late 60s and early 70s in Jamaica, morphed from Reggae, and has found a spot in modern electronic music. Also listen to our Reggae & Ska Playlist.
Dubstep is a genre of EDM that originated in South London in the late 1990s. Characterized by sparse, syncopated rhythmic patterns with prominent sub-bass frequencies. The style emerged as an offshoot of UK garage, drawing on a lineage of related styles such as 2-step and dub reggae, as well as jungle, broken beat, and grime.

Electro swing (or swing house) combines the influence of vintage or modern swing and jazz mixed with house, hip hop, and EDM. Successful examples of the genre create a modern and dance-floor focused sound that is more readily accessible to the modern ear, but that also retains the energetic excitement of live brass and early swing recordings.

Trap is a style of Southern hip hop that was developed in the late 1990s / early 2000s. It is typified by double or triple-time sub-divided hi-hats, heavy, sub-bass layered kick drums from the Roland TR-808 drum machine, layered synthesizers and an overall dark, ominous or bleak atmosphere and lyrical content. The term “trap” referred to places where drug deals take place. In the 2010s, artists crossbred trap with dubstep to create trap EDM.
